Was this speech by gay rights activist too frank for high school journalists?

Gay rights activist Dan Savage forcefully called out what he says is Christian hypocrisy during his speech at a large, annual conference of high school journalists.

From the piece: A number of students, including one who appeared to be crying, walked out of the keynote speech after Savage noted, "We can learn to ignore the bull---t in the Bible about gay people."

Watch the 3:21-second video here. Were his comments appropriate for a high school audience?
