Raising Medicare age might be good politics, but would be horrible policy

Some of the sacred cows are supposedly on the chopping block to resolve the "fiscal cliff" stand off. Among them is the tax deduction for interest on mortgages. If done well and phased in, that makes bad politics but really good policy.

But it would be the opposite for some of the discussed-changes to Medicare.
