Republicans wave the white flag
Though it is still not certain how these fiscal cliff talks will end up, it is important to remember this one lesson: The GOP could have had a much better deal last summer and just about any time over the past couple of years. Instead, it chose to gum up the machine, hoping that was the best way to defeat President Barack Obama. That actually began 4 years ago and included retiring-Sen. Jim DeMint's famous claim that if they could defeat Obama on health reform - instead of helping piece together the best bill for the country - it would be his Waterloo. Had they won back the White House last month, it would have solidified in their minds that doing such a thing was good.
