The ultra-conservative Sen. Jim DeMint is leaving the U.S. Senate to head up the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation. More details to come soon.
Here's what the Heritage Foundation is saying about its new president:
Jim DeMint to become next Heritage president
My quick reaction: The Heritage Foundation seems to be where he belongs. It's a good fit.
There are all sorts of crazy rumors and scenarios being floated in the wake of DeMint's departure, but this one seemed the juiciest to me: Someone said she would appoint herself to the U.S. Senate, opening the doors for Rep. Tim Scott to run for governor in 2014. That would be fun.
Correx: In the last line, I wrote "Scott to run for governor next year." That has been amended.
