John Kasich becomes Obama's biggest red state catch (Purple is probably a better descriptor)
Gov. John Kasich of Ohio says he will expand health insurance coverage to the poor through Medicaid, which is one of the pillars of the Affordable Care Act.
Gov. Nikki Haley has said she won't, even though the state's hospital association and many other medical professionals and analysts and economists say it could provide coverage to more than 500,000 additional South Carolinians and provide the state with increased economic activity, which could lead to more jobs.
I've argued in the past that move means Haley fully owns the state's health care system - which leaves roughly 20 percent of its residents out in the cold - and should be judged harshly if she blocks the expansion and doesn't come up with a comprehensive plan to push our health care system forward. Some in the General Assembly seem to not agree with Haley. Hopefully they can muster the power to let South Carolina follow Ohio's lead.
