White House releases photo of President Barack Obama skeet shooting. Why?

White House releases photo of president shooting

I probably would not have released the photo of the president shooting a gun, though I understand why the White House did.

I get that they are dealing with a diverse constituency, including those who believe that he is anti-gun and anti-gun owner. Maybe the White House released it to ease the minds of those who have doubts about him and his intentions and don't believe they are doing anything wrong by owning guns for personal protection or as part of a sporting hobby or event.

But there is another constituency that is also important, the one that has experienced too many young black men killing each other in a hail of bullets. (Yes, I understand the difference between skeet shooting for fun and drive-by shootings.)

I get that there is a delicate dance on this issue, trying to find a way to tamp down gun violence while not infringing upon individual rights. But I don't believe the photo will allay the fears of the first group while potentially complicating the message of the other one.
