Zero tolerance? Or zero common sense? Kids suspended for having pretend guns

Kids' suspensions renew debate over zero tolerance school policies

If I grew up in an environment such as this, I likely would have been suspended for playing cops and robbers and cowboys and Indians and charged with assault and battery because I played a pretty mean "Red Rover, red rover."

What's been buried in all the headlines about recent mass shootings and the incredible publicity surrounding them: Our schools remain maybe the safest place in the country for our children.

Punishing them for having pretend weapons and stifling their imagination will only hurt them - to no good end. Stop it. Please.
