Tied at 50 with 48.6 seconds to play, Jamal Reid missed a layup to give the Eagles the lead and after Alex Turner grabbed the defensive rebound for Bishop Gorman (Nev.) Reid bent over to tie his shoe. With a 5 on 4 advantage, Gaels’ coach Grant Rice elected to call a timeout and set up an isolation for Anson Winder. The BYU-signee got to the rack and laid it in with 15 seconds remaining to give the Gaels a two point lead.
On the ensuing possession JerShon Cobb’s 3-pointer rimmed in and out and Turner grabbed yet another rebound, was fouled, and sank two free throws to give Bishop Gorman a 54-50 advantage.
Cobb received a scrap basket as time expired to give the game its final tally, 54-52.
Cobb ended the game with 20 points.
Jonathan Loyd never exited the game and led the Gaels with 17 points, Winder added 15 and Spencer Taylor 11.
