Beyond Colorblindness

Kanye West

Kanye West is a good rapper, but unfortunately he is an asshole. He is like Michael Jordan. I believe that yes he speaks his mind and says things that no one else would say but his actions are all messed up. What he said about George Bush maybe true, possibly true, and everyone probably believed it or thought it but it was not the right time to say that. But when he got on stage with Taylor Swift that just upstaged everything. I feel like he is the controversal artists that everyone hates and loves at the same time. Yet, even with this in mind I believe something should be done to change how he is now.

Rachet Girl Video

I thought that all of the girls were in a way rachet because they both showed aspects of rachetness. All and all though I believe actually the two white girls performed the song better than the black girl.

HipHop/Rap

Hip Hop and Rap are two of the most popular forms of music today. Their are many styles within the genre including gangster rap. I believe that this whole gangster rap is one reason why we cannot end black on black crimes. The whole, "I made it from nothing" by selling drugs and violence is corrupting the minds of many black males today. The thing about gangster rap is that they really do not talk about how they were shot or went to jail or beat up and jumped and the hard times that they had in order to sell the drugs and make the money. It is so much influence in music and I believe that it is time to change from this whole style of rap. I know it is for these rappers to make money now since they are already rich now but it's sad to say that it is poisoning the minds of my young fellow black brothers, and yes I say brothers because that is what they are to me, my "brothers." Stopping the whole gangster rap style I think is just one step in bringing an end to black on black crimes.

Color of Fear

I named this the color of fear because I believe that people are afraid of the "black male." I think this because at night people are just so afraid of being attacked or "ran up on" by...not a white person, not a mexican, not a yellow, blue , or orange person but a black person and not just a black person but a black male. I hear so many stories of people saying that if a black male was walking down the same street with them that they would either hurry past them or walk to the other side of the street, but if its a white person then I will just keep walking normal like a whiter person can't be up to no good. Me personaly I don't care if its a black, white, red, yellow, or brown person, if I feel threatened then I feel threatened. I'm not going to put a tag that says all black males are up to no good, all black males are trouble or anything like that. I guess what im trying to say is that we need to except black males as human beings not as monsters. I know that sometimes black males do tend to do bad things but thats not all of them. People these days are letting a few black males that have done wrong dictate, and label the enitre race, and that needs to stop happening.

Obama and Cain

I truly believe the election of Obama and McCain was strictly a popularity vote because I know this was the year when the most Blacks participated in a election. I believe this happened because Blacks wanted to show that Blacks have overcome the stereotype that we will never amount up to anything. Some knew nothing of the presidency but still voted for Obama and most believe Obama hasn't did much while being the president. But just as Blacks who nothing of the presidency and its politic aspects know nothing of what Obama has done. I believe that people should research and get their facts before acknowledging on a issue.

Stereotypes

Stereotypes are, to me, something that is right along with racism, it is something that should come to a stop. I admit I have stereotyped people before I mean who really hasn't, but I am working on not stereotyping people now. It is hard to do this everyone would agree with that. Whether good stereotype or bad stereotype, stereotyping is never something you should do if you do not know someone because it put, usually, a bad image in your mind about that person before you even get to know them. They could be the nicest person, but because you have already painted a picture in your mind about that person then you have already decided what their personality and background must be like.

Race and the local church

I believe race has a big effect on the type of church you attend,  but dosen't have a effect on your religion. People usually attend a church thats heavily populated with the majority of their race. Black preachers usually have more black members attend their church and White preachers usually have more white people attend their church. But the religion aspects on a race strictly to me depends on how you was raised. Younger people usually attend the church where their parents went to and the church they have been attending their whole life. Back in the day Blacks weren't allowed to go to a White church which might explain why a certain race might want to keep tradition and go to a church with s majority of their own race.

Racism

Many people would say that racism does not actually exist but to me I believe it exist and is a real as you or me. Taking this into consideration dealing with the problem is probably harder to do. I believe that everyone should just get along. I mean we are here on Earth like everyone else no matter what color ethnic race or background. How come it is just so hard to no judge someone or discriminate someone? Why can't me just get a long and live in peace with each other?

Racial Bias in The Media

While we were talking about crime rate in the Horry County area, I did my own research. I watched the local news alot and compared it too their websites and rarely did I hear about any white criminals while watching the news, but for some reason i found a sleuth of them online. But why masque the truth?

Color of Poverty.

In this clas we established poverty has no color. That it isn't defined to just one race. Even one of my classmates, Toni, her final presentation proved that. She spoke of how Southern Italians were subjected to discrimination much like blacks in the southern states. But further more, even in the United States lower class blacks, hispanics, whites and other ethnicities seem to discriminate against each other despite being in the same economic class, they find themselves to belong to other social classes. It almost seems as if people look for reasons to hate rather then accept the facts around them and come together.
