Booster club meeting recap

The Chanticleer Club, the fund-raising arm of the Coastal Carolina athletic department, held a board meeting on Tuesday morning. Here are some highlights:

* Mark Roach, the executive director of the Chanticleer Club and also the athletic department's chief of staff, reinterated that he didn't want to increase the minimum donation for football and basketball season tickets for next year. Though the athletic department can still increase ticket prices, Athletic Director Moose Koegel has already said that would not happen in 2009 for football.

* Roach believes the $35 donation required to buy season tickets in basketball should increase in the future. That may not happen until the basketball teams move into the proposed student recreation/convocation center that would be built on the current intramural fields near S.C. 544. The $31 million, 124,000 square foot facility has a projected completion date of 2011.

* The Chanticleer Club has a chance to greatly increase donations over the coming years, Roach said. Here are his reasons why: 1) Once it moves into the new facility, basketball will go from about 500 to perhaps 2,000 season tickets in the new 3,500-seat gym; 2) Brooks Stadium seating will expand by 1,700 seats once the end zone addition is done, creating more seats for season ticket holders; 3) The baseball team is currently in the second year of a three-year deal that allows that program to keep profits from season tickets for facility enhancements. Once that deal is done, the donations from season tickets will go to the Chanticleer Club, which distributes monies to all the school's sports.

* Coastal is currently considering a perks programs for fans who purchase season tickets in a combination of baseball, basketball and football, Roach said. The plan would likely give discounts for people who purchase season tickets in two or more sports.

* The Chanticleer Club will hold it annual scholarship gala on June 12. The event will honor former school president Dick Singleton. A celebrity golf tournament, benefiting basketball and football, will be held the next day at Myrtle Beach National.
