McCully signs with Cardinals

Coastal Carolina pitcher Nick McCully signed a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, officially ending his college career.

Coastal makes coaching hire

CONWAY | Coastal Carolina is replacing a coaching legend with one that's coming off her second national championship.

Kelley Green, formerly the coach at Division II Lock Haven (Penn.), has agreed to a three-year deal to replace Jess Dannelly as Coastal's next head softball coach, Coastal Senior Women's Administrator Cari Rosiek said Tuesday.

Basketball adds assistant

Coastal Carolina basketball coach Cliff Ellis has filled the final vacancy on his coaching staff, according to a release from the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.

Koegel's salary to increase

Warren Koegel will receive a significant raise after his contract expires as Coastal Carolina's athletic director at the end of the month, according to a document obtained by The Sun News through a Freedom of Information Act request on Tuesday.

Hurry up and wait

Coastal's baseball and basketball programs have been waiting years for new facilities, so what's a few more weeks, right? I doubt Gary Gilmore and Cliff Ellis are excited about it, but they'll have to wait until June 29 to see if their new facilities will come to fruition.

Koegel out as AD

The man that oversaw Coastal Carolina's growth into a baseball and football power will not be retained as the leader of the school's athletic department.

Coastal Carolina announced Monday that Athletic Director Warren Koegel will be replaced within the next year. Though his one-year contract expires on June 30, he will continue to serve in his current capacity until a replacement can be found.

Bortnick to sign with Rays

Former Coastal infielder Tyler Bortnick will sign his professional contract with the Tampa Bay Rays tonight in the Brooks Stadium suite.

National title on the line

Coastal Carolina high jumper Jacques Watson will compete for the national title in the event on Friday night at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

MLB Draft now complete

The 2009 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft is now complete. Seven players with ties to Coastal Carolina were taken in the three-day event: senior Tyler Bortnick, junior Nick McCully and signees Steven Matz, Stefan Del Pino, Justin Trapp, Josh Conway and Matt Laney.
