Former Myrtle Beach standout Eddie Jones has committed to play football at Coastal Carolina.
The 5-foot-8, 175-pound dynamo was also considering Georgia Southern but decided Coastal would be the best fit after the Eagles fired coach Chris Hatcher following Saturday's win over The Citadel.
"I went ahead and told them I was coming," he said Wednesday. "When coach Hatcher got fired I just went ahead and committed to Coastal."
Jones, who goes by Mario, needs to pass one exam next week at Horry-Georgetown Technical College to receive his associate's degree. If that happens, he can enroll at Coastal in January. The former Toast of the Coast Offensive Player of the Year will have four years to play his four seasons of remaining eligibility.
Jones, who once rushed for, caught and threw a touchdown in the same quarter, will likely play receiver in college, though he has the versatility to make plays from many different positions. He can also return kicks. Coastal desperately needs help at receiver, meaning Jones could make an early impact in Conway.
