Baseball is a grueling grind from January to June. It's tough for the players to maintain their excitement through the litany of practices and games.
However, you are always guaranteed to see them in their most excited states on "new bat day." A new shipment of bats from Easton arrived in Conway in time for the players to test them out in practice today.
It was like Christmas in April for the Chanticleers.
"This is an exciting day," Coastal catcher Jose Iglesias said with a smile. "I love new bat day. You always feel like you hit the ball harder and further when you get a new bat. ... Everybody loves this day. It's like going and buying a new pair of shoes. You just want to wear them."
The Chants were raving about the new Easton Surge bats, which feature a massive barrel. The players compared the bats to the carbon fiber composite bats they used in 2009 that have now been banned by the NCAA.
The players will likely start using the new bats over the next week or so.
'These things are sweet," Coastal second baseman Tommy La Stella said. "I like the way it swings. ... It's always nice to get a new bat, especially when you aren't paying for it."
