ROCK HILL | Coastal Carolina set a Big South record with eight Chanticleers earning first-team all-conference honors when the awards were announced Wednesday afternoon.
Coastal also had the Pitcher of the Year (Anthony Meo), Coach of the Year (Gary Gilmore) and Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Austin Fleet).
Meo led Coastal's first-team selections as the unanimous winner of the Pitcher of the Year award. Starting pitcher Cody Wheeler, reliever Matt Rein, catcher Jose Iglesias, second baseman Tommy La Stella, third baseman Scott Woodward, shortstop Taylor Motter and center fielder Rico Noel's were Coastal's other first-teamers. Reliever Ryan Connolly was Coastal's lone representative on the second team.
The other awards went to High Point outfielder Nate Roberts, who was the Big South Player of the Year. VMI infielder Cory Spangenberg was named the Freshman of the Year.
