Perhaps the two most important players in this weekend's NCAA Myrtle Beach Super Regional said Thursday their arms are feeling fine.
Coastal pitchers Cody Wheeler and Anthony Meo are facing tough turnarounds after throwing twice in the regionals, but they believe they'll be 100 percent whenever they are asked to throw again. Coastal has yet to name its Saturday and Sunday starters.
"Actually it's better than I thought," Wheeler said. "I've been in the training room a lot the last few days. I'm just trying to get it back to 100 percent. It really never started to hurt. I honestly expected it to, but really it's quite fine.
"I think some rest mixed with the adrenaline of the situation ... it's going to be just fine."
And for Meo.
"The arm is actually surprisingly good," he said. "Yesterday I had some soreness, but I woke up today and it's almost near 100 percent.
"Whenever I throw I should be 100 percent. That's a good thing."
With South Carolina starters Blake Cooper and Sam Dyson getting full rest, the form and health of Wheeler and Meo could ultimately determine the winner of the best-of-three series, which begins Saturday at BB&T Coastal Field. The Gamecocks have also yet to choose a starter -- if they have, the news isn't yet public knowledge -- so it will be interesting to see which team makes the choice first. We should find out at Friday's press conferences.
