Davenport earns Big South honor

No surprise here, Coastal Carolina safety Dominique Davenport has been named the Big South's defensive player of the week.

Davenport delivered the defensive play of the season for the Chants with a 28-yard interception return for touchdown early in the fourth quarter Saturday at Gardner-Webb (in addition to recording 11 total tackles).

That play tied the game at 17-17 after the Chants had thrown interceptions of their own on consecutive possessions. It also gave Coastal Carolina a much-needed spark as it went to a 30-27 overtime win over the Runnin' Bulldogs to keep alive hopes of a winning season and, if everything breaks right, a shot at the Big South title.

Davenport, a fifth-year senior, has a team-high and career-high four interceptions this season and has been among the team's defensive MVPs so far.
