Former Coastal Carolina standout Dave Sappelt has been called up to the Major Leagues by the Cincinnati Reds after batting .313 in 74 games with the Triple-A Louisville Bats.
The 24-year-old outfielder will be making his big league debut after following up his big 2010 season and strong showing during spring training with another productive year at the plate.
Sappelt hit .342 with 53 extra-base hits last year across three levels and was named the Reds' minor league hitter of the year. He then impressed with a .564 batting average in 20 spring training games this year.
The 2007 Big South player of the year, he becomes the sixth player in Coastal Carolina history to make a Major League roster.
