It sounds like senior tight end David Duran is going to miss the rest of the season with the shoulder injury that sidelined him the past two games.
"It ain't looking good," Coastal Carolina coach David Bennett said after his weekly radio show Thursday night at Logan's Roadhouse.
Asked if there was still any chance Duran would return this season, Bennett said he wasn't holding out hope.
"For this year, no, I don't think so," he said.
CCU tight ends coach Gary Smallen added that his understanding is that Duran -- a two-time all-Big South selection and second-team FCS All-American last year -- will undergo surgery sometime soon.
"In this game, and I heard a guy on ESPN radio say not too long ago about the NFL ... if you play in the NFL, you have a 100 percent chance of being injured. And you do in this sport," Smallen said. "You're going to get injured in some form or fashion. You just hope it doesn't become a season-ending or career-ending injury. In his case, it looks like it might be a season-ending thing of course if he's going ahead with the surgery as he's planning with his doctors. Surgery had to be done is the way I understand it, so the sooner the better."
The Chants are also without senior tight end Jamie Childers for at least another game due to the knee injury he sustained two weeks ago against VMI.
