Drayton no longer candidate for CCU head coaching position

Coastal Carolina assistant head coach Maurice Drayton was told Monday morning that he is no longer a candidate to replace David Bennett as Chanticleers head coach, he said.

Drayton, who has served as the Chants' special teams coordinator and receivers coach the last two seasons, interviewed for the position last week and is one of two assistant coaches -- along with offensive line coach Patrick Covington -- under contract for another season.

He did not want to comment further.
