"I struggled when I was younger with what I wanted to do with my life," said Hill, who also considered a music career. In the end the N.C. native chose photography only because of the proximity of a nearby photography school. "I remember thinking of photography, especially the journalistic style, could help me make a difference in the world."
"Throughout my life I've always loved music, and I've played the guitar since I was 10 years old. My parents were supportive, but I do remember bugging them to death with obsessive practice while learning old 1970s rock songs."
After college, music became Hill's outlet after a long day at the newspaper. "If you've had one of those days where everything goes wrong, I've found a strum on a guitar can make things right."
Recent breakthroughs in video technologies have allowed Hill to combine his love of photography and his love of music. "Common Chords was created to support both the mediums I love and to showcase musicians who have made their communities better through music."

I'd also like to thank music lover and former Sun News executive editor Trish O'Connor for giving me the time to create this column. Her trust in me and my crazy visions have made this blog possible. Without her there would be no Common Chords.
