This afternoon the United Way of Horry County, Horry County government and Sterling Homes will hold the final weigh-in of food raised in the extreme canned food drive.
The joint effort kicked off on Dec. 28 and ended Monday, running in conjunction with the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build.
The food drive was developed to restock food pantries in the county where supplies have dwindled after the holidays because of increased need.
The goal was to raise 100 tons and as of the last count Friday only 35 tons had been raised. Officials said the weekend brought in many more donations.
