The preliminary results are in and the rush is on for food donations. The United Way of Horry County in partnership with Wal-Mart took the food donated so far from its Extreme County-Wide Food Drive to be weighed Wednesday and so far there are 10 tons of food ready to be given out to charities and needy families.
The drive has been going on since Dec. 28 and will continue through the weekend, but staff at the United Way are hoping more people will come to drop off a few cans of food on the way to their 100 ton goal. The group has 90 tons to go and less than a week to reach their goal.
Sterling Homes and United Way are encouraging people to go to one of the more than 80 drop-off points throughout the county to donate cans of food before the Monday deadline. The food will go to area shelters, children’s homes, soup kitchens and charities. For more information, please visit: www.unitedwayhcsc.org and www.extremehorry.com. You can also call the United Way office at 347-5195.
