If there was a TV show about builder Harry Dill made today, it would be called "Extreme Busy."
Dill has about 1,000 balls in the air as he supervises the progress of the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" house outside Loris.
Dill's Sterling Homes partner, Clinch Heyward, was able to stop for a bit and give us an update on the home-build progress.
Work fell behind Monday night because the termperature dropped low enough for things to ice over, Heyward said.
But the crews got back on track today.
"We're in the process right now of 'drying-in,'" Heyward said. "We're getting the roof on, the shingles on and the windows in. That's a point every builder wants to reach because it means work can continue no matter the weather."
The HVAC system went in today, and the plumbing was scheduled to be finished by 4 p.m. By 5 p.m., the electrical wiring should be roughed in. The fireplace has been installed and the chimney should be done by 7 p.m.
From 5 to 9 p.m., the plan is to insulate the walls and ceiling. Crews will bring in the drywall at 9, and from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., they will hang the drywall, which will get a coat of primer tomorrow.
From midnight to 4 a.m., volunteers will install bathtubs, showers and shower pans. The house's siding will be put up starting at 6 a.m. tomorrow.
"We're just so privileged to be a part of this," Heyward said. "It's this swirling volunteer effort that takes on a life of its own, and it's fantastic."
The Suggs family left Monday from a small house with one bathroom. They'll return to a five-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home with a big front porch where they and friends and family can gather.
The build will be finished Saturday, and on Sunday, the interior crews will decorate the furnish the house before the Suggs family returns Monday to see the final result.
Heyward and Dill's company was part of the first Horry County Extreme Home build, and they know what to expect when the family returns.
"It's a very precious, special moment," Heyward said of the moment the family sees its new house for the first time.
