John Daly acknowledged today he has been suspended for six months by the PGA Tour. In reality, this could be a good thing if he uses the time off constructively. But what are the odds of that? Probably worse than coming out ahead at a casino blackjack table, which is where Daly might spend a lot of his time. Daly has been aimlessly bouncing around for the past couple years without an exempt PGA Tour card, taking sponsor exemptions where he can get them. Daly has been playing a bit on the European Tour and should continue to play there and keep his game in shape. But what he should really do is get his body in shape and spend six months on the practice range. Imagine a slimmer, focused and sharp Daly returning to the tour midway through the season, determined to be competitive in every tournament he enters. No? Me either.
John Daly will never get into shape and he will probably come back fatter than ever.
