Easy money in PGA Tour opener

Dustin Johnson's late-season win in the Turning Stone Resort Championship gave him a chance claim some easy money in this week's season-opening $5.6 million Mercedes-Benz Championship, which is reserved for PGA Tour winners in 2008. Joe Ogilvie earned $65,000 for finishing last in the 2008 Mercedes. There are only 33 players in the field, and many of the game's top players aren't among them.

The top four players in the world aren’t entered. No. 1 Tiger Woods is injured, and No. 2 Sergio Garcia, No. 3 Phil Mickelson and No. 4 Padraig Harrington, who won the past two majors, are skipping the tournament. In addition, five members of the victorious U.S. Ryder Cup Team _ Jim Furyk, Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker, Chad Campbell and Ben Curtis _ are also not entered. Furyk’s absence if probably particularly disappointing for him considering he has a home on the fourth hole of Kapalua’s Plantation Course.
