Wyndham has a few stars, though no Johnson

The 70th Wyndham Championship, the final PGA Tour event of the year in the Carolinas and the final tour event prior to the FedEx Cup Playoffs, is being skipped by many of the top players on the PGA Tour and in the world, though there are a few stars participating. Sergio Garcia, Adam Scott, Charles Howell III and Ryan Moore were among the final commitments on Friday. They are joining players including Rich Beem, Stuart Appleby, former Myrtle Beach resident Kris Blanks, Jonathan Byrd, KJ Choi, Tim Clark, John Daly, David Duval, Steve Flesch, U.S. Open champ Lucas Glover, Tommy Gainey of Bishopville, Rocco Mediate, Jeff Maggert, defending champion Carl Pettersson, Justin Rose, Brandt Snedeker, David Toms, Bubba Watson and Boo Weekley.
Paul Azinger sustained an injury at the PGA Championship today and was forced to with draw from the Wyndham Championship.
Myrtle Beach resident Dustin Johnson, coming off a tie for 10th and a final-round 70 Sunday in the PGA Championship, is taking the week off after playing two consecutive weeks.
The Wyndham is being held this week at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.  Tickets are available online. The tournament office number is 336-379-1570.
