Myrtle Beach resident Dustin Johnson made a big splash on the PGA Tour as a rookie last year with a win and finish of 42nd on the money list. But he's reached another level of play this year, a much more consistent level of play.
Johnson has finished in the top 25 in half of the 22 events he's entered this year, and has missed just four cuts with a withdrawal.
Last year he missed 11 cuts and withdrew from two events in 30 starts, and he went through a big lull where he seldom played well from March through August.
How has he become more consistent?
``Last year I struggled and whatnot, maybe I wasn't quite as organized,'' said Johnson on Tuesday, Sept. 8. ``This year I've paced myself a lot better and taken some time off. I've definitely been more prepared every tournament.
``In the past month I've worked on my short game and putter a bunch. I've been putting more like I normally do. I've been playing solid.
``I'm up there on the top of the leaderboard a lot more, where I'm in the hunt and have a chance. That's the goal, to go out every week put yourself in position to win the golf tournament on Sunday.''
Great to see DJ playing well this year.
