Since winning its seventh consecutive Big South Conference title, the Coastal Carolina men's golf team has had to wait nearly three weeks to find out which of six regional sites it will be sent to. But that hasn't stopped the Chants from preparing for the regional, which will take place May 20-22. CCU coach Allen Terrell said five of the six sites, with the exception of Texas A&M, have bentgrass greens, so the Chants have been able to play the odds and practice at bentgrass facilities, including the Reserve Club in Pawleys Island. Each regional will have 13 or 14 teams and the top five finishers at each site advance to the national finals at the Honors Course near Chattanooga, Tenn., from June 2-5.
Coaches used to make near-certain educated guesses on where they would be sent for regionals when there were only three, but since the recent change to six sites was enacted it's difficult to predict how the golf coaches association will balance each field out.
CCU's graduation ceremony this past weekend should give the players little else to focus on other than preparing for the upcoming regional.
