Tiger the common man

I've been amused since Tiger Woods made his return to golf at the Masters by how hard he's trying to be seen as just one of the guys as a way to make himself more human and help people relate to him. He has spoken about how excited he was to be back and see "the guys", the other players on tour, like he's ever been friends with very many of them. He's been calling just about everyone his friend, to the point of saying during his first press conference at Augusta National that he had many friends in the room, referring to members of the media. That drew a few inquisitive looks, considering I don't know of a single member of the media who can call themselves a friends of Woods. I'd be shocked if he had the cell phone number of a single writer. Maybe a couple people in television, but I'm not so sure about that, either.
Tiger may have tried a little too hard this past week at the Players Championship. In a short interview after the first round, he referred to his playing partners, Ian Poulter and Hunter Mahan, as Poults and Hunts. Tiger's just making up nicknames now. Poults and Hunts? Please. Poulter said that since he made the comments about it being just him and Tiger atop the world rankings once he reaches his potential, Woods would call him "No. 2" when he'd see him in public. You don't have to try to make us believe you're friends with everyone on the planet.
