Conway native Kristy McPherson expects to play more in 2011 because she expects the LPGA Tour to add to its tournament schedule.
McPherson said that during a player meeting with first-year LPGA Tour commissioner Mike Whan in September, the players were led to believe that next season’s schedule could include up to six new international events and eight new domestic events.
The LPGA announced new events in 2011 in Montreal and Taiwan. But the LPGA also has some work to do in replacing some events. The tour is losing its event in Danville, Va., the Jamie Farr Classic is off for at least a year while the U.S. Senior Open occupies the course in 2011, CVS dropped its sponsorship of a Calilfornia event and the LPGA Championship is in doubt.
McPherson hopes to increase her personal schedule from about 26 in 2010 to about 32 tournaments next year. “The commissioner is doing a good job trying to get them all to come back,” she said.
