Rocco a feel-good winner

You have to love Rocco Mediate winning again Sunday at the age of 47 at the Frys.com Open for a number of reasons. First of all, Mediate is a good guy by all accounts. He always has been in my dealings with him. Second, he's one of the best quotes on tour, and media members always pull for guys who give us the best quotes, especially when they're as approachable and available as Rocco usually is. Third, he's one of the few players on tour not playing with an equipment sponsorship. Mediate ended his 13-year relationship with Callaway in June so he could play the clubs he wants to play. There's something refreshing about it, the fact that its more about what he wants to play compared to what he's paid to play. And you have to love the way Mediate won, holing out from the fairway in all four rounds, the final time on the 17th hole Sunday for eagle from 116 yards after having his playing partner mark his ball on the green. How cool and confident is that? Glad to have you back in the winner's circle, Rocco. And around for at least two more years.
