Has Tiger given up on friendships?

Tiger Woods fired caddie Steve Williams a few weeks ago, apparently the Sunday of his AT&T National tournament, where Williams was caddying for Adam Scott.

Caddies come and go for players on the PGA Tour, but Williams appeared to become one of Woods' friends, nevermind just working partner. Woods was the best man at Williams' wedding, and Williams was in Woods' wedding party as well.

One has to wonder if Woods actually has any true friends. He's still with Mark Steinberg even though Steinberg left IMG, but that seems more than a business arrangement than his relationship with the man he affectionately called "Stevie."

Woods' closest friends on tour have long been Mark O'Meara and John Cook - both good guys. Several months after his scandal broke, both O'Meara and Cook were interviewed and asked about Woods, and both said they hadn't spoken with Woods since before the night he crashed his car. If he didn't call to get their opinions, apologize or just talk to someone, who did he call?

As many other things seem to be going wrong in Woods' life, his apparent lack of friends may be his biggest problem. And he just turned his back on what appeared to be perhaps his most loyal friend remaining.

When Williams' tell-all book comes out, I might just buy that one.
