If you’re getting in late from a night on the town, have insomnia, or are an early riser, remember you can watch some British Open action for the next four mornings, beginning with ESPN’s coverage starting at 4 a.m. Thursday morning from Royal St. George's in England.
CCU alum and former Myrtle Beach resident Dustin Johnson tees off at 3:42 a.m. in the first round, so he’s sure to get some air time, and a lot of air time if he’s playing well. Johnson goes off the first tee with Yuta Ikeda of Japan and England’s Ian Poulter. Johnson’s group goes off the first tee in Friday’s second round at 8:43 Friday.
Johnson is coming off four consecutive top-25 finishes with a tie for 20th in the HP Byron Nelson Championship, fourth in The Memorial and tie for 23rd in the U.S. Open, as well as a tie for 18th in the BMW International Open on the European Tour.
Johnson has played in the past two British Opens, missing the cut in his second season on the PGA Tour in 2009 with a 14-over 154 total and tying for 14th last year at St. Andrews with a 4-under 284 total.
