COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. | Conway native Kristy McPherson will hold the clubhouse lead overnight in the U.S. Women’s Open at The Broadmoor East Course, as the first round was suspended by inclement weather.
McPherson has the lowest score among the 25 players who have completed the opening round with a 2-over-par 73. That has her tied for 18th in relation to par, not counting the half of the field that has yet to hit their opening tee shot.
Americans Cristie Kerr and Amy Anderson share the lead in relation to par at 2 under. Kerr is through 15 holes and Anderson is through 12.
McPherson teed off on the 10th tee and was even par through 15 holes with two birdies and two bogeys, but bogeyed two of her last three holes to fall to 2 over. She struck the ball well, hitting 10 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation, but needed 35 putts.
