Johnson struggling through two rounds at Dunhill Championship

Dustin Johnson is not in contention going into the weekend at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.

Johnson shot a 73 Friday at Carnoustie for an even-par score after two rounds and is 12 shots off the lead shared by England's Tommy Fleetwood and Northern Ireland's Michael Hoey.

Johnson played both Carnoustie on Friday and Kingsbarns on Thursday for the first time, and hopes the familiarity of the St. Andrews Old Course will help him lower his scores this weekend. Johnson, the No. 5 player in the world, is playing with his younger brother, Austin, in the celebrity pro-am format.

“Over the last two days I have played courses that I have never been to before," Johnson said to tournament representatives. "Today in particular, here at Carnoustie, it’s one of those courses where you have to see it before you can play it. I putted badly again today and also drove it in a couple of bunkers which didn’t help.

“It’s a shame that I couldn’t come here a bit earlier this week to get in some additional practice but my schedule just didn’t allow me to do that. But I’ve enjoyed the last two days and at least I’ve played these courses now, so I will know them a lot better for the next time. Tomorrow it is the Old Course and I’ve played that a few times before, so I should be OK.”
