Looks like former Grand Strand resident Kris Blanks, who lived in the area from 1996-2002, is giving it a go this week at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
He’s been dealing with a shoulder injury that is likely a labrum issue and was vacillating between trying to play in Phoenix or having surgery. Phoenix will be his first PGA Tour event since last July, though he finished fourth in the final stage of Q-School on Dec. 3 to retain his PGA Tour status in 2013.
Phoenix may be his litmus test to determine if he will have surgery or attempt to play more and test the shoulder early this season.
On Jan. 15, Blanks tweeted: “Nice easy day on the range today. Every shot hit with swing link on to help my shoulder. Going thru a simulated tour week to see how I feel.”
On Monday, Blanks tweeted: “Had a fun day on the links today in PHX. Felt good to get back inside to ropes. I'm hoping the body can hold up and can get through the week.”
