Coastal Carolina alum and former Myrtle Beach resident Dustin Johnson showed the best and worst of his game at the season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua.
And much like Phil Mickelson's swashbuckling style and John Daly's grip it and rip it mantra, Johnson's fearless style of play that he displayed Tuesday in the final round is one of the reasons he's endearing himself to many fans.
Johnson lost a drive on the ninth hole and hit a wayward drive on the 13th hole that required two shots to get back in play, leading to a double bogey and near-elimination of his lead.
But Johnson again pulled driver from his bag on the par-4 14th, smoked a big drive to within 50 feet of the green and chipped in for eagle.
There's more to come in 2013, especially if Johnson can remain healthy.
