Late birdie allows Johnson to play on the weekend at Oak Hill

Coastal Carolina alumnus Dustin Johnson made the cut on the 3-over 143 number Friday in the 95th PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club with a late birdie on the 510-yard par-4 17th hole and par on 18 to close out a 71.

Johnson made a double bogey on the par-4 fifth hole to fall to 4 over, and followed up birdies with bogeys on holes 7-8 and 14-15 to remain a shot outside the cut line before draining a 15-foot birdie putt on the 17th. Video of the putt is available at: http://goo.gl/po9huZ

He enters the third round 12 shots behind leader Jason Dufner, who shot a course-record 63 Friday.

The 29-year-old former Myrtle Beach resident has made the cut in four of his five appearances in the season's final major championship, with a 10th-place finish in his debut in 2009 and tie for fifth in 2010 when he took a two-stroke penalty on the 72nd hole at Whistling Straits to fall out of a playoff that was won by Martin Kaymer.

He missed the cut in 2011 and is trying to improve upon a tie for 48th last year at Kiawah Island Resort's Ocean Course.
