Former Myrtle Beach High School standout Chris Gore is enjoying the college life at Erskine - and he's also keeping his head in the books. He thanks his big brother Carlos Gore, a Seahawk alum who played college ball at Morris College, for helping him keep his priorities straight.
Chris has made a few new friends along the way, of course. But a couple of them are a bit surprising - but maybe shouldn't be. He took about 20 minutes to talk. Here's what he had to say:
Q | So give me a little background first: How'd you end up at Erskine?
Chris | [Then Myrtle Beach]-coach DeAndre Scott - he let me know [Erskine] had interest and showed me their Web site and I took a visit there and enjoyed the campus.
Note: Chris said Francis Marion and Coker were also in play for his services.
Q | So what about Erskine did it for you?
Chris | I really like their system and the campus. It's in the middle of nowhere, so I won't have many of distractions while I'm playing ball and getting an education.
Another note: Erskine is in Due West, S.C.
Q | What system do they play?
Chris | Spread offense and primary focus on help-side defense. It's very team-oriented.
Q | What are the biggest things you've learned or had to adjust to playing at the college level?
Chris | The pace of the game is way different - more quicker and strength.
Q | Tell me about Jay Lang and P.C. Henry. I know they played at Myrtle Beach Christian and you were at Myrtle Beach High. Did you know them growing up? What's your relationship with them?
Chris | Never knew them at all.
Q | Was it weird to find out they were from Myrtle Beach too when you guys ended up on the same team? And when you did, how did it work out?
Chris | It wasn't [weird] at all. P.C. Henry actually became a best friend of mine and playing with them has not been bad either.
Q | What has Carlos' influence been on you, since he's already played college ball?
Chris | Yeah, he is a huge influence on my life. He reminds me what my priorities are and he stays on me about my grades and to keep my head in the books.
Final note: Chris is a sports management major and said he is enjoying it.
