North Myrtle Beach High and Yale alum Matthew Kyle is in New York through Tuesday trying out with the New York Knicks, he said Sunday night.
Kyle, who played professionally in Tunisia last season, said he got the chance with the Knicks because of his ties to assistant coach Dan D'Antoni, who was a longtime coach at Socastee High School. Kyle said he "played well on Friday" and that "David Lee, Amare, [Stoudemire], Jared Jefferies, Tony douglas, [and] Ronny Turiaf were working out too."
Kyle recently signed to play for the Toyama Grouses, who play in the Basketball Japan League, which debuted in 2005.
As for his thoughts on signing to play in Japan?
"I speak Japanese and I'm pretty pumped," Kyle said.
That is, of course, if he doesn't impress the Knicks enough to keep him. Stay posted.
Alright this is getting out of control. The kid did not have a workout. He was cleared to practice there. There was no formal workout. He will not play in the NBA period. Also David Lee was not there. He is not part of the Knicks organization anymore.
