E.J. Gallup takes some shots during Myrtle Beach High alum Akeem Hemingway's basketball camp last spring.
The last time E.J. Gallup was playing professional basketball, he was many miles away from home.
After a year off, he's going to be playing a lot closer to home now.
Gallup, who two years ago was playing professional basketball in Germany, has signed to play this season with the International Basketball League's Alabany (N.Y.) Legends.
Gallup, who starred in his senior year at Coastal Carolina, is back in his home state after taking a year off while tending to a business he opened in Myrtle Beach.
"[I'm] hungry, man ... just ready to play a meaningful game again," Gallup said.
Over the years, Gallup built up quite a profile overseas playing for top division teams. However, taking a year off made it difficult to find a job to his liking.
Now, he's taking a pit stop - one that should be fun for him and his family and friends back home.
"[It] should be a good time to play at home again and I've got a few different teams overseas that are waiting to see me in the spring to maybe sign me for next season over there," Gallup said.
The Legends open their season - which runs through the spring - April 15.
It can't start soon enough for Gallup.
"I'm really excited," Gallup said. "I can't wait to get started."
