Coastal is off to a great start, but we'll know a lot more about the Chants after March ...

Also, below, a top 20 list of college players compiled by Baseball Prospectus writer Bryan Smith. No Coastal or Big South players on the list, though CCU fans will see an honorable mention in Michigan two-way player Zach Putman in March.

Simpson runs 4.43 and 4.47 at combine

Former CCU star receiver Jerome Simpson continued his impressive postseason with 40-yard dash times of 4.43 and 4.47 seconds at the NFL Combine on Sunday in Indianapolis.

His time of 4.43 broke him into the top 10 times for receivers on the day. Most draft experts had projected Simpson to run a 4.5-4.55 time in the 40. The run should do nothing but help his draft stock. He was projected as a third or fourth round draft pick in April.

SImpson also tied Arman Shields for the best vertical jump in his group (37.5 inches).

Simpson, like most receivers, did not participate in the bench press drill.

Top five 40s for first WR group (Simpson was in second):

1. Dexter Jackson (App. St.) 4.27

2t. Andre Caldwell (Fla.) 4.31

2t. DeSeah Jackson (Cal) 4.31

4. Will Franklin (Mizz) 4.32 -- weighed in at 215 lbs

5. Donnie Avery (Houston) 4.40

Ellis' best coaching job?

CCU's Cliff Ellis has coached college basketball 33 years. He has won over 600 college games. By the numbers this season doesn’t seem special for Ellis. A 13-12 mark, 6-6 in conference play. But as we know the Chanticleers are without their top three athletes in Joshua Mack, Everage Richardson and Joseph Harris. They have gutted this thing out using every defense, every quick panacea short of duct tape.

So the question we pose is this Ellis’ best coaching job? A coach who has won SEC and ACC titles.

UNC Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz believes it is.

And where does this rank as a coaching performance in the history of Coastal Carolina?
