Thigpen not the man just yet
You might have read the NFL Network’s Adam Schefter's report last week, which stated the Chiefs believe former CCU star Tyler Thigpen could topple Brodie Croyle for the starting job in 2008.
Now the Chiefs say they like Thigpen ... a lot. But to suggest that there is a open competition coming soon is a bit premature, according to Chiefs quarterbacks coach Dick Curl.
``If we were playing today Brodie Croyle would be our starter,’’ Curl said via telephone Tuesday. ``We are very fortunate to have [Croyle], Tyler, David Greene and Damon Huard.''
Curl likes Thigpen, and Croyle, which is part of the reason the Chiefs did not select a quarterback with one of their 12 picks in the April draft. He says the ball ``jumps’’ from Thigpen’s hand and that Thigpen has had a great offseason.
But Thigpen will open training camp by trying to topple Damon Huard, the No. 2 quarterback, not Croyle. And that's not such a bad thing for Thigpen as Curl notes it usually takes two quarterbacks to get through a season on the field.
