I haven't yet quite had time to digest the news from Atlantic Beach this week, that most of the town's current officials were sent to the chopping block. At this point, I'm mostly waiting for things to settle down a bit, and especially to see what happens with the current town manager, William Booker, who is now on a mandated three-week "vacation."
But I'm curious about other reactions. Any thoughts on the topic? I'll offer just one slightly editorial comment on it thus far. I've been consumed the past few weeks with preparing content for the special 50th anniversary section of The Sun News (look for it in August!), and in doing so I've been going through lots of old newspapers. I noticed yesterday that back in 1989, on the front page that chronicled the fall of the Berlin Wall, we also ran an article about a contested election in Atlantic Beach and worries about the town's municipal election commission. Is there anything new under the sun?
