Another new face is entering the race for the 7th Congressional District seat. Gloria Bromell Tinubu, an Atlanta-area politician, has filed to run. (Up to 14 now in our guide to the race). I'm still trying to get in touch with her, but in the meantime, there's some info available through the power of the Internet:
Tinubu served on the Atlanta City Council, is a Georgia state representative, and was chair of the economics department at Spelman College. Her legislative bio says she's a South Carolina native, and she got her masters and PhD at Clemson. She ran for Atlanta mayor back in 2001 (but lost). If the area can get over the idea of somebody who's been living in Georgia coming in to run for the seat, she could give the local guys a run for their money.
Update: Just spotted this bit of background out on the Web. Looks like Tinubu resigned her Georgia seat two weeks ago, just a year into her service, in order to move up this way. The secretary of state's office down there has already set a schedule for replacing her.
Update #2: Looks like Tinubu is from Plantersville. And I got an email from Buzz Brockway, a fellow freshman legislator in Georgia. His assessment? "I think she's smart and articulate but seems to move around a lot."
