Just found another candidate. They're coming out of the woodwork.
Jim Mader is a Pawleys Island-based businessman, graduate of HGTC and UNC-Chapel Hill, running as a Republican. You can read all about his views on various issues at his website.
Update: Just talked with Mader. He said that he was inspired to run by the tea party protests. He wasn't able to join them personally, but said that "Congress was just making me irritated." As a result, "my best chance for a protest was to run for office."
He's never run for political office in the past, but he sees his chances as 1 in 15. Somebody has to win, he said. Mader showed a business-centric mindset, perhaps a plus in the current economic environment. He's pushing for a new look at education, perhaps changing it from the Monday-Friday, 9-month format that it's currently in. The most important thing, he said, is to determine what we want education to be used for, and then tailor it to achieve those goals.
He's also interested in improving transportation and roads to spur investment, and he's concerned about the nation relying on government for jobs. In general, as he put it, "I'm just fed up."
