Minimum wage, by the numbers

Remember that minimum wage hike the president proposed in his State of the Union address? Looking at the numbers kept by Bureau of Labor Statistics, it could have an outsize effect on our area. More than 35,000 local folks (about 32 percent of the local labor market) work in occupations whose median wage is less than $9/hour. (Tables here).

Now if experts could just agree on what sort of impact raising that minimum wage would have. All I know for sure right now is that it's a debate worth watching.
