A sharply divided Supreme Court on Monday said police can routinely take DNA from people they arrest, equating a DNA cheek swab to other common jailhouse procedures like fingerprinting.
This obviously will help solve some crimes, but does it give too much power to the police? Should a kid being arrested for having a beer have their mouth swabbed?
I have heard some rumblings about posts not showing up. I've noticed a lot of links that seem to be getting caught up in spam, so I'll try to get that fixed.
However, if you have something get hung up, please shoot me an email at tgarvin@thesunnews.com and I'll try to get it on there as soon as I can.
Sorry about the glitch, but I'm trying to figure this thing out on the fly.
Let's talk about a letter to the editor from a Myrle Beach writer proclaiming that Bikefest should move to a less crowded month. Granted, that would never happen because it's not even a Myrtle Beach event, per say, but if you did have that power, where would it go?
Obviously, the cyclists are going to come in a month when it's warm, so we can knock November through March out right there. April and October are some of the peak golf times, so would having it those months hurt your return golf visitors?
That leaves May-September. I'd say anytime in peak tourist season is a recipe for disaster, so is it perhaps not best just to leave it where it is?
Just a fun discussion on a hot topic in our area. Are we a tourist destination and, if so, should we accept all visitors with open arms or only those that live up to our "family" values?
