Time for a pit stop

It's that time of year ... you know, the few weeks of the year when auto racing takes a break.

I'll be back around the beginning of February, just in time to talk about the Daytona 500.

In the meantime, I hope everyone out there has a happy holiday season.

Deiny DQ'd from Myrtle Beach 250

Frank Deiny's third-place finish in Sunday's Myrtle Beach 250 Late Model race was thrown out Wednesday after NASCAR officials found he had illegal cylinder heads in his motor.

Deiny, who won the Myrtle Beach 250 in 2004-06, was also disqualified from a race in July, 2006, for the same infraction.

Make the Chase better

I know I've thrown this topic out there in the past, but we always have new readers.

I like parts of the Chase format. It's 12 drivers and a dash to the finish. You have the chance to make one mistake and not have it cost you. Two? You're out.

I wish it wasn't 10 races. The Hooters Pro Cup Series uses five (four next year) and that's plenty. And even in five races, the standings got turned upside down. And with football going on, it's hard to stay interested for 10 races.

I'd also switch the tracks. I've said before, wouldn't it be great if they ended the season at Daytona or Bristol or somewhere fun. I'm already dreading Jimmie and Jeff chasing each other around at Homestead.

You're thoughts?

Pro Cup eliminates one race at MBS

Myrtle Beach Speedway will host only one Hooters Pro Cup Series race in 2008, series officials announced Saturday. The lone date will be June 21, 2008.

The second date, which this season was Oct. 6 this year, was part of the five-race championship series. That date in the Pro Cup scheduled has been eliminated.

The Pro Cup Series has been running two races a year at Myrtle Beach Speedway for the past several years.

McCumbee up front

For those who watched Chad McCumbee at Myrtle Beach Speedway ...

FORT WORTH, Texas _  Chad McCumbee qualified second for Friday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.
It matches the best career start for the Supply, N.C., resident.
Mike Skinner is on the pole for the Silverado 350K, which takes the green flag at 8:30 p.m. The race will be televised on Speed.

Gordon or Johnson?

So if you have to take one, who would you take? I know most would say 'neither.'

But who would you rather have win the title this year?

I'd rather Gordon. Reason? I have a special place in my heart for those who have children.
