Jamey Caudill wasn’t about to let a potentially dangerous situation keep him from winning his first career race at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
On the last lap of Sunday’s Seneca 250, the lapped car of Jerame Donley crashed on the back straightaway and sat sideways high on the track. Leader Frank Deiny Jr. came out of Turn 2 on the high side and had to slow down to avoid hitting Donley, while Caudill snuck by on the inside to win the thrilling race and the $10,000 prize.
“I wasn’t going to lift, the caution wasn’t out,” Caudill said. “I saw a lot of smoke and a car sitting sideways there. There wasn’t anything dangerous there, I didn’t think, unless the guy rolls down.
“You know, last lap, the caution light isn’t out, you have to go to it.”
